The king is dead.

A duke came to England promising to bring Christ's peace, and with him came an army blessed

by the pope himself.

But William didn't want peace. He wanted wealth. He wanted power. And this invasion

force was unbound by any law or custom held by the people they now sought to dominate.

They had no interest in this island's culture, its history, or even its people.

Many won't even bother to learn the language.

England wasn't being liberated.

It was being colonized.

And in their lust for domination, the Normans would soon begin to look outwards towards the rest of the island.

This occupying force intended to change an entire civilization into a structure that served their own interests.

And to do this, William and his papally sanctioned army sought nothing less than to break the will of the people.

And so the Battle of Hastings might be over, but villages still burned.

Peasants were still being slaughtered.

And the surrendering soldiers were now being executed.

And as for the culture of these people,

that richness that grew from hundreds of years of migrations, adaptations, and innovations,

that had little value to William and the nobility of France.

Law, language, custom, everything would need to be changed

in accordance to their needs.

Because this island had no past.

History starts with their arrival.
