It is not lost on me that in this modern world there is increasingly much to draw your attention

away from trifles such as podcasts, especially at this most sacred time of year.

What's that you say?

Hollywood Award season?

Well yes of course, also frightfully important, but not what I had in mind.

I speak of course of Groundhog Day.

Yes, Groundhog Day, what a pack of Teutonic Tommy Rot!

I mean honestly, all this hullabaloo over whether a common Marmotor Monax will predict a prolonged

winter or an early spring?

I'll stick with weather on the ones, thank you very much.

Modern meteorological science can be trusted to outperform the meandering of an overgrown

ground squirrel any day of the week.

In an effort to debunk this Boulder Dash once and for all, I undertook to travel back to the very

first Groundhog Day, which my research, Wikipedia, indicated took place in rural

Pennsylvania in the 18th century.

When I arrived at the specified co-ordinates late in the evening of February 1st, I was astonished to find the entire countryside overrun with groundhogs.

But these were no ordinary groundhogs.
