The clouds have lifted, ladies and gentlemen, but the day doesn't look any more clear than it did.

Yesterday, I'm afraid, there were promises in the air, promises of future travel opportunities,

promises of better things to come, and even promises to make us all feel safer in our communities.

But is it really anything more than smoke and mirrors as we endeavour to navigate

our way out of the jam that we are still in? Because make no mistake, we are still in it.

The police have decided to buy up all the boats to the channel to stop illegal migrants

from continuing their invasion of the south coast of England. The R&LI is doing on some kind of

mercy mission making out that rescuing all these people from very, very calm waters where they don't appear to need to be rescued is in fact some kind of mercy mission making out that rescuing all these people from very, very calm waters

I don't know quite why they're making out that it's a terrible thing that people have been abusing them

because I don't think people have been abusing them.

Nobody goes around abusing the R&LI unless they're a complete utter idiots.

That may have happened once.

It doesn't mean it happens all the time.

And the RNLI ought to really wind their necks in, I think,

and spend most of their time saving people who are actually in need of saving,

as opposed to bringing people here who are coming illegally.

That seems to be pretty straightforward to me.

Also, buying up all the boats in the channel.
