Summary

We’re so happy to be back for Season 2!

There's that old adage, "Change is the only certainty in life." And it applies to your yoga practice and teaching, too. This week, Jason and I are talking about the internal challenges, doubts, and insecurities that come up when we're managing change in our practice.

We talk about:

* How Jason has changed as a student and a teacher throughout the years. He shares one transition that was particularly hard for him as a young teacher

* He gives advice for people who are hard on themselves after a shift because they feel disillusioned about some of the beliefs or techniques they were teaching previously

* Why Jason dislikes the word “master” (as in “yoga master”) and what happened in his life that empowered him to start experimenting with changing up yoga traditions and sharing his findings with his students

* The struggles that come with the evolution of modern yoga in the social media age

* Why it’s problematic for teachers to discourage their students from experimenting with other teachers and other ways of practicing

Hey everyone, I'm Andrea Ferretti and this is season 2 of 2019, episode 148.

0:07.0

I wonder if now I should stop saying the episode numbers, which is something that

0:14.8

Jason has wanted me to do for a long time.

0:17.0

For some reason, the episode numbers just ground me.

0:21.0

So, but I suppose I could to say them silently to myself.

0:23.4

Anyway, welcome back, it's nice to be back.

0:26.8

The little hiatus I took flew by,

0:28.8

I hope it did for you too.

0:31.3

Today I'm going to be talking to Jason Jason and we are going to be talking about change

0:36.0

specifically managing the fact that most of us change in our

0:42.0

yoga interests slash yoga teaching as time goes by and so how do we

0:48.0

manage that process internally and what that was like for Jason when he went through some big seminal changes early on in his teaching.

0:56.0

In the next episode we will talk about how to implement that change in your teaching and in your classes,

1:02.0

but today it's really more about the internal process. I want to just

1:06.0

take a moment to acknowledge that the last episode of last season was difficult for some people.

1:13.4

That hasn't really happened to us before.

1:15.2

And quite honestly, it wasn't something

1:17.5

we were anticipating.

1:19.1

It wasn't our intention to be derogatory

1:22.1

toward any form of yoga or anyone's practice. We were simply

1:25.9

trying to offer information to think about as you practice yin and just creating a

1:32.2

balanced practice and I know that many of you already do have a very balanced practice and I acknowledge that and again we were just trying to provide information for those who are less aware and also just to think about the effects of of static stretching on the body and mitigate some of the potentially problematic effects.
