There's a phrase, the straw that broke the camel's back.

And it means something small can happen

and lead to a big change in the future.

And while that does happen,

most of life changes when everything changes,

when big things change.

For example, this is Susie, the Subaru, my truck.

She's broken.

There's something wrong with her carburetor,

which controls the balance of fuel and oxygen.

You see, vehicles need fuel and oxygen to run, and if the balance is off, it'll either shut

down or run poorly.

Our life is similar.

When the balance is off, we feel it, or we just shut down.

Suzy's carburetor, on the other hand, is not a quick fix. It's not like I can just twist a few

bolts and replace a few small parts and then she's ready to go. She needs a big change. Nearly

everything in the carburetor most likely needs to be repaired. For Susie, everything is going

to change when everything changes. And everything changed in Matthew's life when he met Jesus

in Matthew chapter 9.

He went from being a tax collector or a thief to being one of the 12 apostles of Jesus.

How? Jesus called him and then he responded by faith with a big change.

He left his job. You see, we crave newness. We want to experience the newness of life, but we're
