Imagine… Thanks for tuning in, folks - it’s a proper great one this week, featuring a heavyweight guest who Pip has been trying to link with for a good long while. Well it looks like those dreams have been fulfilled, as this week’s guest is none other than CEDRIX BIXLER-ZAVALA of The Mars Volta, At The Drive In and MORE!

Covering as much ground as possible in the hour they have before Cedric heads off to deal with the formalities of another live show, Pip and Cedric get deep into it from the very start - and there’s a ton to get through… To gloss over several of the talking points, you might get some insight into Cedric’s upbringing and being a Mexican American in Texas, the relentless and hypnotising tour schedule, the importance of being around like-minded and driven people and peers, growing up in a place with little or nothing going on and carving out your own opportunities, finding bandmates, drilling and finely crafting the sound of At The Drive In on the road through pure hard touring, his performance style (which has influenced Pip over the years) and how it was informed by breaking as well as Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys and the lead singer of The Make Up, shaking up language, song origins, rough support slots and tough crowds, dealing with losses through his life - mainly people and dealing with the pain and sadness, and all wrapped up with some very dark Scientology talk, about which it is hard to not get angry about on his behalf. Nevertheless - it is a wonderful, far reaching chat and any fans of The Mars Volta, At The Drive In, Antemasque and the hardcore scene in general will get a huge kick out of this. Pure gold from start to end, from one of the friendliest sounding and nicest dudes on the scene. ENJOY!

0:20.2	I'll mention right at the start that this week's guest is Cedric Bixler's Avala about the
0:24.4	driving, which is one of my most requested guests. As you'll hear in the podcast,
0:29.8	me and Cedric have been trying to line this up for a couple of years now. So I was delighted to get
0:35.4	it done and it's one of my favourite episodes I've done. I've been saying that a lot this year,
0:41.2	and then after that I've been saying that a lot this year, but it truly was. You'll hear that at the
0:46.8	driving growing up, one of my favourite bands and Cedric as a performer was one of my biggest
0:54.1	influences. Whilst that may not come across, because I'm doing raponies doing rock of sultz,
1:00.9	punk of sultz, hardcore of sultz, I don't know. But yeah, big influence, but big love to everyone
1:06.7	who has been sharing and going crazy over last week's 200 episode, it went down a treat.
1:13.0	And I'm willing to say that it's the first time there's been a podcast between a man with a
1:20.2	stutter and a woman with a Tourette's, an over hour long conversation unedited,
1:26.5	uncropped and polished. And yeah, it really meant the world that people responded to it well.
1:33.1	It was amazing to hear people saying how a few people felt at the start. It was quite hard to
1:39.7	listen to or jarring because of the speech diversity, but by 10, 10, 15 minutes in it just
1:49.2	flowed by. It's similar. I honestly think it's similar to if you've been listening to this for a
1:53.4	long time. I think a lot of you don't really notice my stutter in that much anymore. And it's
2:01.9	the same with me, I don't notice it until I listen back to things or until it's highlighted and
2:05.8	things like that a lot of the time. So yeah, I thought that was great and I had that exact experience.
