Trauts, originally told at Ex-tempo Central Vermont's totally excellent live storytelling event.

The story takes place in 1966 with a phone call and a proposition.

Here's Otto.

A lot of things happen when you're in school. And a lot of things happen to me in graduate school. I was living with four other guys off campus and it's a

beautiful spring day 1966. The phone rings and my room I John picks up and he's talking for a while then he hands

me the phone he says it's for you I think this is strange because he's been talking to this person for 15-20 minutes.

But I take the phone and I say hello.

This voice on the other end says,

hi, this is Julie.

I'm thinking, Julie, do I know what Julie?

I have to ask.

Say, Julie who? She says Julie Newmar, John's sister. Oh, yeah, sure. Well, hi Julie.

Now, every male in America knew who Julie Newmar was in 1966. They knew her under a different name.

They knew her as Cat Woman.

Cat Woman in the original Batman series, Cat Woman in her skin-tight leather outfit with a little pointy ears, Cat Woman, the perfect villain.

You realize I have to drug you with California.

So I say, Julie, what's up?

What's on your mind?

She says, John tells me that you're a sailor. I say well I know how to sail but I mean I don't

have a boat here. Actually I don't have a boat at all. She says, well, that's okay. I'm down at the Falmouth Playhouse.

And we've got a musical down here.
