Well, hello and welcome. My name is Father Patrick Mackin, and today I'll be giving you a

catechism class on the second part of the Fifth Commandment. So we are in the book My Catholic Faith,

chapters 107 and 108.

As a quick recap, we covered the first part of the Fifth Commandment

in the previous lesson, and that was chapter 106.

In that chapter, of course, we covered the basic teaching of the Fifth

Commandment, which is, thou shalt not kill. But we also saw the exceptions that the church

would accept where there could be a moment in justifiably taking another's life. So we saw

those distinctions like the doctrine of just war, the doctrine of self-defense,

as well as the capital punishment.

So any of those questions that you would like to go back to, if you haven't heard that lesson,

So we also saw other questions such as concerning the sin of euthanasia or mercy killing.

We explored the question, is it okay to hunt animals and kill animals?

We even saw the doctrine concerning modern-day tattoos and piercings,

which always generates a sufficient amount of controversy among our youth.
