What is up my gardening friends? Kevin from Epic Gardening here and today we are going to talk about cat grass.

Now it kind of seems strange, but actually my lead writer on the site really loves growing

grass for her cats.

And so she wanted to put an article together on the site for this and talking about just the different types of cat

grass you can grow.

It's really kind of a catch-all term for any number of edible grasses that cats really

seem to enjoy. In stores you see it

sold as cat grass but most of the time it's actually a blend of seeds. You can also

opt to just buy a single seed type and grow it, but here's a mixture of the things that are commonly

packaged up and sold as catgrass. First of all, you have wheat grass, which I think we all know about.

Next you have oat grass, barley grass, rye grass, or flax.

And, you know, oat barley and rye, it's just the grain that's grown to its grass stage. You know these are all

grasses and so you just don't let it get to a harvestable state. So the the question becomes, okay, well, why do cats actually eat grass? A lot of

scientists believe that it's because of gastrointestinal distress. So cats will build up these

hairballs when they groom, and grass can help

them eject those.

There are other sort of theories why they do it.

Grass is fiber-rich can help settle cats' stomachs.

Some cats seem to love the taste.

Grass might also be a source of needed trace nutrients.

Indoor cats, which is probably most cats these days, may just be sampling the outside world and maybe your cats just trying to decide if that
