the Hollywood Reporters Awards podcast I'm the host Scott Feinberg and

this is a special edition coming to you from the New York

Film Festival and presented by the Empire Hotel.

My guest today is Casey Affleck, the 41-year-old Oscar-nominated actor who's been on the

scene for more than 20 years now in films

including to die for goodwill hunting Jerry the assassination of Jesse James by the

coward Robert Ford gone gone baby gone out of the furnaceess, Ain't Them Bodies Saints,

Interstellar, and now Manchester By the Sea, which brings him to this festival.

Manchester by the Sea is a drama written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan,

the revered playwright and screenwriter with whom

Affleck has worked numerous times on the stage, but never previously on a film.

In it, Affleck plays a loner of a janitor who unexpectedly becomes the guardian of a teenage boy after the sudden death of his brother.

For Athlex character, this comes with plenty of challenges, not least of all battling memories of his own past as a husband and father.

The film proved a sensation upon its premiere at January Sundance Film Festival where Amazon acquired

it for $10 million.
