Traditionally celebrated by dressing up as your favorite ghouls and ghosts the holiday actually has a long and storied past. The roots of this candy-filled celebration of terror go far back into the history of Celtic tradition where the holiday was known as Samhain and was a time where the world of the spirits and gods would cross over into the mortal plane. From that time the holiday has gone through many transformations to become what we see today. But is there something more sinister that brought the holiday into the American mainstream? What part did Big Candy play when it came to the popularization of trick-or-treating? Even more interesting, is there evidence that there has there been some sort of unholy plot to reduce the size of Halloween candy over the years? Join the Theorists as they bring you full-size KitKat conspiracies on...The Story of Halloween. Disclaimer: In this case file I mispronounced the Celtic holiday Sow-win as Samhain. Just go with it. Also, while we’re on the topic of mispronunciations, a concerning number of our listeners seem to believe Braden, spelled BRA-DEN, is pronounced Brandon or Brendan. I’d like to take this opportunity to let everyone know it’s pronounced “Craig”. Thank you.
