In the previous part, Bertie's friend Corky was further insulted by the outcome of their misjudged scheme

when his uncle had asked him to paint the portrait

of his new son and heir. But after the uncle had furiously declared the portrait horrendous,

Jeeves suggested Corky use it for the daily comics in the paper, which he did with great success.

In tonight's story, Bertie's plan for a peaceful life in New York are derailed when the

overpowering Lady Malvern and her son Motty arrive at his doorstep.
