In the previous part, Bertie Wester was recounting the tale of his first having met his

valley, Jeeves.

After first employing him, they travelled to Worcester's uncle's country house, in response to

his fiancée Florence's urgent message.

It transpired that she was mortified by his uncle's debauchrous manuscript

and charged Worcester to destroy it before it was published.

Worcester reluctantly agreed and wandered off to consider the matter.
