We'll go back to Lumette's film, but first we'll discuss Gus Van Sant's Dead Man's Wire, a hostage genre inspired by a real-life event, and the

similarities don't end there. On a February morning in 1977, Tony Carritzis walked into the

downtown office of an Indianapolis loan company and took mortgage broker Richard Hall hostage.

Critsis blamed Hall and his father for his inability to pay his mortgage, accusing them

of a scheme to force him to default so they could claim his land as their own. To make his point, Crittsus wired a shotgun to Hall's head and took him back to his apartment, where he remained his hostage for 63 hours, a crisis that only ended after Cretz was allowed to hold a televised press conference.
