Welcome to the next picture show, a movie of the week podcast devoted to a classic film and how it shaped our thoughts on a recent release. I'm Tasha Robinson here with Keith Phipps. Just me, just me. Just Keith Phipps. Scott and Genevieve went on a little boating trip this afternoon, and we are not sure where they are, actually. They were due back hours ago.

I'm sure we'll hear from him soon. In the meantime, though, we have brought in an old friend of the show, culture writer Charles Bermesco, who has some special expertise in this week's pairing. Hello again, Charles. Hello, it's very, I'm very glad to be here. I'm very glad to have attained old friend of the show status as well. Are you very glad to watch a couple of episodes about fun and sun and surf and islands while

we're all freezing under mountains of snow? Who knows? The feeling might even come back into my

fingers and toes. I really think it would be cool if you, when you say special critiques, it's because Charles was once shipwrecked and stranded on a desert island, but unfortunately.

Unless, my main thought while watching one of the films I were going to be discussed and I, I would die like day two, three, maybe.

I'm not passing 80 hours on there.

I would get sunburned within 15

minutes of being shipwrecked and then all of my skin would peel off. And that would be most

of my obsession. Everybody else is worrying about food and shelter. And I'm just like, I'm a giant

pile of peeling skin. Yeah. This week we're discussing two different movies about a man and a woman with a history between

them, getting stranded on a deserted island where these issues get worked out amid violence,
