In this episode, The Enterprise is orbiting an unknown planet when it begins to experience

severe turbulence from temporal distortions. The bridge's helm console explodes, seriously

injuring Sulu. Bones rushes to his aid with a hypospray of cordrazine, which revives the helmsman.

But seconds later, another distortion wave rocks the ship, forcing bones to accidentally

hypospray himself with 100 times the normal dose, triggering severe mental and physical side

effects. Shouty paranoid bones knocks out the transporter chief

and beams down to the planet,

pursued by Kirk Spock, O'Hura, and Scotty for some reason,

and some red shirts who also beamed down.

On the surface, they find the Guardian of Forever,

a sentient time portal with a booming voice.

Shouty paranoid Bones jumps through the vortex and vanishes into the distant pass,

changing the timeline so that the Enterprise Starfleet and the Federation no longer exists.

In order to save themselves, Kirk and Spock enter the portal,

before Bones does so they can stop him from changing the timeline.
