Summary

This is a review of the Canon EOS 80D that came out this week. Having been an avid user of the 70D for almost a year, I was extremely excited to check out the new version. B&H http://goo.gl/nGKUAG Amazon http://amzn.to/1SpT6vU First off – the dynamic range is amazing. The new sensor Canon is using may be an indication of things to come in the future. I did some testing in this video. There’s a more complete test over at DPReview – definitely have a look. http://www.dpreview.com/news/7168986570/canon-shows-dynamism-eos-80d-breaks-new-ground-for-canon-low-iso-dr SPONSOR This video is sponsored by Squarespace For a free trail and 10% off your order, visit http://squarespace.com and user offer code AOP on checkout Twitter: http://twitter.com/tedforbes Instagram: http://instagram.com/tedforbes Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aop.podcast Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/tedforbes Website: http://theartofphotography.tv And get on our mailing list to stay up to date on photography news and the latest episodes: http://theartofphotography.tv/about/mailing-list/ Ted Forbes The Art of Photography 3100 Main St #135 Dallas, Texas 75226 Thanks for watching - if you like this video, remember to share it with your friends! Okay, so this is the 80D and I'm filming with the 70D they look an awful lot of likes so it's easy to get them mixed up.

Before I start on this review I do want to give a disclaimer. Many of you know that Cannon hired me

0:20.5

recently to go down to Austin and do some work with the John Lennon bus

0:24.0

and we did two videos while it was down there

0:26.0

that you can check out.

0:27.0

I'll put links in the show description.

Both of those videos were sponsored by Canon.

This video is not sponsored by Canon. In fact, this video is not

0:34.9

affiliated with Canon in any way other than I'm going to do a review of one of their cameras. In fact,

the ADD I paid for with my own money and all the testing and opinions that I'm about to share with you are my own.

So I want to start with the image quality because one of the things that was announced with this camera was an improvement in the dynamic range and I was really interested in that and

0:56.1

this is the thing I'm probably the most impressed with so I want to show you some tests that

I've run with this.

Now in terms of dynamic range the two biggest challenges

1:04.0

when you're determining an exposure for your photograph are going to be the

1:07.0

highlights in the shadows. Now highlights are the brightest part of the image and

1:11.2

when they go too bright we call that clipping and once

1:13.7

highlights have been clipped they start to lose detail in fact once they've gone

1:17.2

to pure white they contain no detail. Now if you're shooting in raw format you can

1:21.3

restore a little bit of that but it does have a limit on
