This is a part two with Riley Kirk, you can catch up on the last episode or just pick up right here! On this installment, Riley talks about the nuance of flavor that comes from compounds (some of which are just being discovered) not only being present and produced by our flowers- but also by interacting and transmuting when introduced to things like heat and pressure. Riley also shares some insights into her own grow, as a researcher who also takes the extra step to grow the plant herself.

| 0:36.9 | Speaking of new discoveries though what have |
| 0:39.3 | you recently been researching or what's a compound that's recently been discovered that's breaking |
| 0:45.3 | and new in the world of cana science you know i don't think we're discovering a lot of like brand new |
| 0:51.5 | compounds like new to the world but I do think we're starting to discover |
| 0:55.8 | more things that are present in some cultivars that we didn't know before so like for instance |
| 1:01.9 | when we're on this when we're talking about like the scatol or indole or if we're talking about |
| 1:06.8 | these um tropicana sulfurs like these really long molecules that contain sulfur but smell like |
| 1:14.6 | sunscreen um we're just starting to discover these too so in the really tropical varieties we often are |
| 1:20.8 | like oh must be limine you know but it's not limine it's like a very different aroma. And part of this aroma is definitely due to |
| 1:30.7 | these can of sulfur. So I think sulfur in general is playing a huge role in a lot of the really |
| 1:37.1 | interesting flavors that we're picking up on cannabis. And what's really interesting is our nose is |
| 1:43.6 | so sophisticated. And it can pick up sulfur molecules at like the smallest levels, like parts per billion. |
| 1:51.5 | Because we've evolved like as a protective mechanism, we have to be able to smell sulfur. |
| 1:56.7 | Like it's been, it's saved lives to be able to have a really good nose for sulfur because it can mean like gas leaks or it can mean toxic compounds produced by nature. |
| 2:06.0 | So our bodies are like really honed in on picking up on sulfur. |
| 2:10.0 | So even though these compounds are only produced at minuscule amounts in the flower, our nose can absolutely pick up on those. And I think we're kind of |
| 2:20.2 | just at like the precipice of figuring this out. And as growers, it's going to be interesting to |
