Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on X this afternoon that President Donald Trump's proposed tariff on Canadian goods, quote, will be paused for at least 30 days.

His announcement follows an afternoon phone call with Trump, who also paused tariffs on Mexico

earlier today.

In exchange, Trudeosa, Canada will invest heavily in border security, appoint a fentanyl czar,

and join the U.S. enlisting cartels as terrorist groups.

He also said he signed a new intelligence directive to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering, to which he'll allot $200 million.

This is the world's richest man.

That's Jeremy Kaindyke, the president of Refugees International and a former senior official at USAID.

The agency has been all but shuttered and absorbed into the State Department to be at least

temporarily led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Rubio called it a, quote, completely unresponsive agency.

And President Trump said this afternoon that he doesn't need congressional approval to scrap it.

Kaintyk rebutted both claims.

Most of the work USAID does is actually directed by Congress.

Congress says fund this much for health, fund this much for education, fund this much for humanitarian assistance.

The administration negotiates that budget with Congress every year and then executes that.

I don't see where they're seeing some huge disconnect.

Certainly, the agency is not operating on its own power.

They're operating under congressional and state department directives.
