We need an interpretation here, and this first is going to sound very legalistic, but it is not. It comes to something called the Online Harms

Act, which is now before the Canadian Parliament for several readings. That's their way of advancing legislation to

being signed into law. And Charles, I don't want to go too fast on this because

there are details here that are flabbergasting.

Bill C63, a new online harms act.

Eventually I understand this is about hate speech online,

among other things. And there are penalties here that

seem extraordinary and overwhelming to individuals to corporations. What is the

thinking about why this is needed? why what appears to be censorship at a

vast scale is required. Has something new happened in Canada that we've missed in

America? good evening. Well I think that it's reflective

of the polarization of society between those of us who believe in liberal freedoms

and those who believe that societies like Canada are white

supremacist societies that have oppressed subsections of the society,

Aboriginal people and say sexual minorities,

like those who transgender and so on,

and that it should be illegal to continue said oppression through stating opinions that

challenge the accepted authority of the rights of indigenous people, gender minorities,

racial minorities, religious minorities to to fully participate in Canadian society. So it's a chilling

proposal of legislation that on the grounds of fomenting hate or proposing genocide will serious of controversial issues. For example, you know, there's a fraction of the Canadian population

that that believes that homosexuality is sin if they were to express this kind of
