and today my guest is Bruce Filer, author of the new book, The Secrets of Happy Families.

Now that might not sound immediately like the type of book that HBR would put on its reading list,

but Bruce is applying some of the best management ideas from the business world to an institution known as the family.

So Bruce, thanks very much for being here. Thank you for having me.

So I want to just punch right in. I notice in the book there are several references to the

Harvard Business View. So I think what you're trying to say is that every family should

subscribe to HBR and we will get along just fine.

I think that is what I'm saying. In fact, when I got to the end, I realized that the organ that I had

quoted the most in the secrets of happy families was Harvard Business Review and I think that gets to

really the point that we're here to talk about and that is look two large things are going on in the

family one everyone knows about which which is that women have been

flooding into the workplace in the last generation, but the other is that men have

been flooding into the parenting space and they're much more involved than they've

ever been. And what's happening is that this new generation of parents

is incredibly frustrated.
