I grew up in Minnesota, where the winters are often extremely cold.

One day in high school, I headed out with my dog to a refuge area in a beautiful nature setting.

I was sure the pond would be frozen solid.

As we got closer, Betsy ran ahead looking for birds.

The next thing I knew, she had gotten too close to the pond and broken through the ice.

He was now frantically clawing to get out of the icy water.

I was way too far from any house to run for help, and there was no one else around.

I also didn't have a cell phone.

What I did have was everything I'd learned in the Christian Science Sunday school.

The Bible reports God saying,

Before they call, I will answer.

And while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

And I read in Science and Health with key to the scriptures that divine love always has met and always will meet every human need.

These aren't just comforting words.

They are promises and even laws of God.

They tell of an all-powerful, all-loving God who is always with us, guiding, directing, protecting, and providing for his spiritual creation.
