| 0:28.4 | Guys, I'm not talking about a couple of days of eating a lot of protein. |
| 0:32.0 | I'm talking about consistently consuming too much protein week after week, what would happen? |
| 0:38.2 | Alright, so a couple of things about protein. |
| 0:40.2 | There's a hormone called insulin. |
| 0:42.0 | Insulin has several functions. |
| 0:44.8 | Insulin converts what you're eating to fat. |
| 0:47.8 | It also prevents the release of fat. |
| 0:50.4 | So it's a fat-making hormone that prevents you losing weight. |
| 0:55.2 | An excessive amounts of protein will trigger insulin. |
| 0:59.4 | But the question is, there's a lot of people doing a large amounts of protein and they're not getting fat. |
| 1:05.1 | Why is that? |
| 1:07.0 | It's because protein also triggers another hormone called glucagon. |
| 1:13.6 | Glucagon does the reverse of insulin. |
| 1:16.9 | It's produced by the pancreas by the alpha cells. |
| 1:20.3 | This is produced by the beta cells. |
| 1:21.9 | So they're a very close relationship and they do an opposite function. |
| 1:27.3 | So glucagon helps you burn fat. |
| 1:29.6 | So if you're consuming a lot of protein, you're going to be triggering both of these hormones at the same time. |
