The Lakers are trying to build a team around Luka Dončić that can push the Spurs and Thunder at the top of the conference next year. The Lakers are trying to build a team that can win in a sustainable fashion around Luka. They're trying to get younger, to get more athletic, to add better centers, better wings and better depth. In short, they're trying to do a lot of things at once, and don't necessarily have a ton of resources to do it (despite what the team has been implying...).
