I'm in Italy. I'm in Sienna at a conference on Europe, the future of the European Union and all

that sort of thing, which might strike listeners as odd, considering that I did vote for Brexit,

but I'm invited to take part in a panel here on the Draghi Report and

related stuff, which the Draghi Report came out this week. So yeah, in lovely Sienna. Well,

and presumably sunny and you can sunbathe between the meetings and you're always in sunny places Ian even though you're from

Scotland it's it's amazing that's why I'm always in sunny places and I think

Steve you are in a sunny place this week well I'm down in St. Ipes first kind of little

mini break for months and months a month so yeah just been swimming as Miranda was when she was in Suffolk, thinking about politics

as the waves waft over us, you know?

Well, you're deep in the Methodist traditional territory of the Liberal Party down there, Steve.

So look out.

I'm sitting, Miranda, in a liberal seat. You'll be thrilled to hear. Not for long, not for long.

Gained at the election. Re-gained by the same chap who used to represent it. Regained. Regained.

Regained by the same man. Yeah. Well, can I confess something about, confess something because my, um, birth place is North Devon, Barnstable. And my, my mum and dad aren't particularly, no one in my family is particularly political, but my nan, Esther Ware, sadly no longer with us, um, was actually agent for a time to Jeremy Thorpe.

And so... Wow.

We used to always have quite spirited, very respectful, but spirited arguments.

Because when she found out I was a Thatcher supporter in my teens,

sorry, we've mentioned Mrs Thatcher again.

She was very unimpressed, but we were still very close.
