Summary

Foetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs)

What are FASD's?

Is it safe to have any level of alcohol when pregnant?

How does it affect the unborn baby?

How and when is it diagnosed?

These are questions Vic and Hamish should have probably found the answers to a long time ago, but like many people, they both chose to ignore the facts about FASD and live in hope that it wouldn't happen to them. Silly really.

FASD a condition, or range of conditions, that we've all heard of, but for some reason don't take too seriously. We presume we shouldn't drink when trying for a baby but make excuses....'Surly, one won't hurt?' So, today is about facts, finding out what it is and how alcohol consumption can have impact on a baby during the first trimester.

As you may have guessed... neither of these two buffoons know much about anything, so, they have invited on an incredible guest, Sophie. Sophie has lived lived experience of FASD after exposing her unborn child to alcohol in early gestation and today discusses her own experience of living with the guilt and shame that comes alongside this diagnosis. She also chats about how it affects her sons daily life, the challenges, the wins and how gaining more knowledge about FASD has made their relationship closer.

This episode is for anyone that has ever wondered about this condition or is essential listening if you are trying for a baby.
