Hello and welcome to The Week Junior Show. I'm Bex and I'm joined by writers Eve and Joe from The Week Junior, the magazine Making Sense of the World for 8 to 14 year olds.

0:12.4

This week, the team will be talking about some top secret UFO files, a unique new mascot and where the campfires should be banned.

0:20.6

Make sure you're listening closely because at the end of this episode, we'll be asking

0:23.8

you a question about what you've heard, and if you answer it correctly, you could win a prize.

0:28.2

But more on that later. In this week's magazine, there's a feature about the important

0:32.8

roles that bees play in keeping the planet healthy. And it got me thinking, what is your

0:37.1

favourite insect to

0:38.5

spot out and about eve how about you well keeping on the theme of bees uh but this one's a bit rogue

0:45.3

i like to see evidence of a leaf cutter bee being in the garden so leaf cutter bees uh basically

0:53.5

cut off like sections of leaves to then make

0:56.1

their nests to live in. And it doesn't like harm the plant or anything. But sometimes you can

1:03.1

tell that there have been leaf cutter bees around. I only know this because my dad told me this,

1:07.0

because there will be like leaves of a plant but have little bits cut out.

1:16.2

And they basically cut it off and then fly off with that little bit of leaf and then make up their nest.

1:18.2

But I just think it's really cool.

1:23.7

And kind of now that once my dad pointed it out to me, now if I ever see any leaves with little bits cut out, I think,

1:25.4

ooh, has a leaf cutter bee been here?

1:27.9

That's so lovely. I didn't know that at all.

1:44.6

And also, to me, they do have a bee having a nest. I didn't really think about that because in my head they're just all in hives. Yeah, well, it's actually, you can read more about this in the Virginia, but it's actually leaf cutter bees are solitary bees, so they don't live in like big hives with loads of other bees. Oh, wow. Oh, my goodness, Eve.

1:45.8

Okay, thank you very much for that.

1:47.0

I'm genuinely fascinated.

1:44.4

Joe, how about you? big hives with loads of other bees. Oh, wow. Oh, my goodness.
