Listener discretion is advised. When I was a kid growing up in the 80s, one of the stories that dominated the latter half of that decade,

both in America and the rest of the world was the AIDS crisis.

It was and remains a terrible disease and back in the 80s the word AIDS

came with so much baggage that stemmed from fear, confusion, and let's be honest here,

homophobia, that President Ronald Reagan very famously didn't utter the word until 1986. People were dying and society at large was focused not in the

tragedy of the victims but on the lifestyle of the victims because then they

could justify that homophobia.

Anyway, this isn't a social justice episode or even an episode about the AIDS crisis.

The reason I bring it up is because there's a crazy campfire story that was repurposed sometime in the late 80s

that served to scare the shit out of adults living their lives instead of kids sitting around

a campfire.
