I'm John Batchel.

Two outsized personalities, men in their 50s,

who are looking to lead the United States of America now and then.

One is the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, 40th governor.

The other is Elon Musk of SpaceX and Tesla and now Doge.

I welcome Bill Whalen of the Hoover Institution because most recently I've seen once or twice a headline or some reference to the fact that Gavin Newsom is unhappy with Elon Musk.

I don't know that I've seen the reverse, but I'm sure Elon Musk often has comments about everybody.

Have these two men met in public and

shaken hands? Is there a good photo of them or is that yet to come? Good evening. Good evening, John.

Yeah, there's a very good photo of them. You have to go back a few years to when Tesla announced

that it was going to open up a new office in Palo Alto and and Newsom showed up for it, and so they made

very nice together, and they kind of joked, and they, I think, Musn noted that, or Newsom noted

back in the early 2000s that Newsom was one of the first people to put down $100,000 for a Tesla

Roadster, so they yucked it up over that. But behind the public

facade, there is a real problem going on, and that was then, and this is now. And what's happened

is, first of all, Elon Musk has had a very public divorce with California in terms of

selling his real estate, moving out, moving Tesla and SpaceX and other entities to Texas.

He is in a feud right now with the California Coastal Commission over trying to get SpaceX rockets launched out of Vanderbord Air Force Base.
