I'm John Bachelor at the beach at the California Beach with Bill Whelan Beach

Beachfront property and we begin with the rich and litigious as Bill says in his

new column for California on your mind.

Bill, I've never understood how the beach works in front of those really expensive places

in Malibu, and you write of two instances that has to do with public access.

How does it work, Bill?

Well, John, there are plenty of state parks up and down the coast.

Keep in mind, California coastline is a gigantic operation.

There are plenty of state parks where John Batcher and Bill Waylon can access the beach.

There are also plenty of areas that are not state parks but are considered public land

where you and I can access the beach but

then John we get to this complicated topic of what is off limits when somebody

buys private property and decides that he or she is not going to let the public go to the beach.

And it gets down to two issues.

Number one, what who actually owns beach property

in California, but secondly, John, who has access to the coast.

And the access question is very relevant here where I am at Silicon Valley because it involves a gentleman that may be in Kosela, who is a co-founder of Sun Microsystems.

He's a very prominent Democratic donor.

He held a fundraiser for Joe Biden here a couple weeks ago.
