In this episode, we'll be looking at volume 11, issue three, Rome against Rome, Caesar versus Pompey and the Balkans.

We've got the dream team tonight. I'm joined by Yaspurotage, Mary Daab, Mark McCaffrey, Mark DeSantis,

and joining us after a brief hiatus is

Lindy Powell. So we need to start with some sort of introduction to the Civil War, this is Caesar's

Civil War. It's the crossing of the Rubicon that kicks it off. I wonder if, Jasper, you would like to briefly bring us up to, um,

the casting of the dice. Oh boy. Well, that that's,

feel free to be pithy. This is a really good article in the latest issue. It explains exactly,

um, how that went.

The really short summary version is that in the 50s BC you have the so-called first triumvirate of Pompey, Crassus, and Caesar, three really powerful men who basically

divide up power in Rome to get there,

to advance their own goals.

And during that decade, when Caesar is in Gaul, Pompey's perhaps, you know, maybe past

his biggest fame,

and Krasas manages to get himself killed in ancient Near East,

at Kare.

And then at the end of the era of that period,

Caesar is looking for a renewal of his,

his imperium and to stave off being prosecuted for alleged or not alleged crimes against um against Rome by

senators who are not his friends and this situation sort of

continues Caesar is in just across the border the formal border of Italy in the

Poe Valley and it frankly it just escalates really the conflict between the
