| 0:00.0 | Hello, everyone, and welcome back to an all new episode of the Financial Confessions. |
| 0:05.0 | It's me, your host, Chelsea Fagan, founder and CEO of the Financial Diet, and person who loves to talk about money. |
| 0:11.0 | And one of the things that we talk about quite a lot on this channel, I have issued several rants on this subject, |
| 0:17.0 | to a surprising amount of residence, is the concept of self-care. This is a concept that I |
| 0:22.9 | think is amazing in theory, but is often in practice, especially on places like social media, |
| 0:29.5 | really bastardized into something that, in my opinion, only heightens the extent to which we are |
| 0:34.8 | often atomized and distance from each other and responsible |
| 0:38.7 | for issues which often are much more systemic than individualized in nature. Put simply, |
| 0:43.5 | it's often the case that you just can't self-care your way out of certain things. And more |
| 0:48.2 | importantly, if a version of self-care only exists to reinforce the same toxic hyper-capitalist structures that put us in that |
| 0:56.0 | position in the first place, it's probably not a long-term solution to anything. |
| 1:00.4 | Now, obviously, as we've discussed on the channel, things like a glass of champagne or a |
| 1:04.3 | slice of cake or a bubble bath can be really enjoyable. |
| 1:07.3 | But they're also not often what we mean when we're talking about self-care |
| 1:11.2 | in a way that's meaningful and helpful in the long term, and perhaps most importantly, |
| 1:16.4 | structurally beneficial to people besides just yourself. |
| 1:19.5 | Because, again, a lot of this sort of Instagram-ified self-care is often targeting the most |
| 1:24.5 | privileged people in society to begin with. |
| 1:27.2 | So I say all of this to say, |
| 1:28.5 | we are always on the search for a version of self-care that is pragmatic and holistic and reaches |
| 1:34.2 | a lot wider than just whatever we can pull out our wallet and happen to buy. My guest today is the |
| 1:39.7 | founder of Inner Workout and the author of the forthcoming book by that same name. We'll talk about it and it will be linked for pre-order in the description. |
