0:00.0 | Hello, and welcome back to Practicing Human, the podcast where every day we're getting a little better at life. |
0:06.0 | I'm your host, Cory Muscara, and in today's episode, we're going to talk about creating the dream house of your mind. |
0:14.0 | More to come on that in a moment. First, let's settle in together with the sound of the bells. |
0:30.0 | Okay, so the other day I stumbled upon this YouTube video. It was, I don't know why it came up in my feed, but it was about, it was this tour of this $500 million house in LA. |
0:56.0 | I think it's the most expensive house ever created, at least in the United States. I don't think it's been sold yet, but it was made designed by this world famous designer. |
1:09.0 | All these details, I don't care too much about, but it was compelling, you know, $500 million house. I want to see what this is all about, and I watched the whole thing. |
1:18.0 | And you might not know this about me. I share a decent amount of my personal life, but ever since I was a kid, I was always compelled by shiny things. |
1:33.0 | Shiny things as in like things themselves. I liked nice things. I liked the idea of accumulating things. |
1:42.0 | It was, I always thought I was going to go into business for this reason. Money always fascinated me from an early age. |
1:51.0 | I remember like being six years old and just like looking for quarters and collecting and just thinking of things I could buy. |
1:59.0 | And so that, you know, always that lasted with me until a, until college-ish and, and then started getting more intimidation and mindfulness and, you know, values reorganized. |
2:14.0 | But there's still that part of me that's just like, oh, you know, things. Oh, that's nice. Oh, I would like that. |
2:21.0 | And I have other voices that come in and go, you know, is that really going to be the thing that fulfills you? |
2:27.0 | But it's interesting to see me get pulled to different things. So I'm watching this video and I'm just looking at all these different rooms and the infinity pool and the view and the big ceilings. |
2:39.0 | And a lot of it's really gaudy and not what I'd be interested in. But it was just like, it was cool to sort of dream about it and think, well, what would it be like to live in a home like that? |
2:52.0 | And, and I just found myself getting like sucked into it for however long it was 15 to 18 minute video. |
3:01.0 | And I came out of it and, you know, just I could see myself ruminating on that and what would that be like? |
3:09.0 | Maybe not a $500 billion home, but like something with that sort of thing or that sort of thing, that sort of thing. |
3:15.0 | And I just thought about it more. And I said, you know what? Like a lot of things about this, about that experience. |
3:24.0 | I've already experienced in different ways, you know, a view like that. I've seen a view like that before, you know, for free, you know, overlooking L.A. and overlooking other beautiful sites. |
3:34.0 | And it's wonderful. And there is a sense of awe. But even, you know, after a short period of time, I still have to be in my mind and my body while I'm there. |
3:44.0 | And I might get bored. I might get hungry. I'm off to the next thing. So it's not like that brings the lasting satisfaction. |
