And this week we have a very special episode and one that is the first in a series of episodes we will be doing in collaboration with members of the Animal Policy Alliance, which you may

have heard about on episode 748.

Our guests today are Natalie Awish of Humane Action Pennsylvania and Hannah Truxell of the

Humane League, and they're here to tell us how to get it done.

Specifically, they'll be addressing Pittsburgh's foie gras sales ban, which is a prodigious accomplishment in and of itself,

but it's also instructive on how it is, in fact, possible to get local legislation passed,

and how it can lead to progress for animals.

Even those, well, especially those trapped in the worst of the worst things that we can do to animals.

This is an exciting campaign for me to talk about because I remember being very involved in an anti-Fua-Gra campaign many years ago, like almost 20 years ago, I think.

Yeah, foie gras has always been a hot topic for animal advocates.

I'm sorry, interrupted you. Tell us about the campaign.

Well, no, I think I'll probably wind up talking a little bit about it during the interview with them.

But it definitely has always felt like it's one of those sort of fringe issues that

strategically animal activists feel that we can win.

You know, there's always those like fur bands and foie gras bands.

And, you know, in the companion animal space, like

declawing bands and things like that. So I'm looking forward not only to this interview,

but to this whole series because I think local legislation is something, well, I hope that

more and more people are getting more and more interested in, especially in today's
