Summary

Have you ever wondered how we came to be doing what we're doing? If so, the next two episodes are for you. This week, we're diving into Alice's story, in a conversation led by Louise. You'll learn all about Alice's journey from graphic design to a full-time career as an artist, and what exactly that entails. We travel through Alice's past, talk about the role depression played in making her an artist, and explore the idea of intentionality ... how much of what we do is clearly envisaged from the outset versus that which is arrived a gradually and in incremental steps. Finally, we discuss Connected Artist Club, the online membership group that Alice built from fledgling idea into thriving community. If you have ever wondered about how to build a successful art career, this episode is for you.

Let's get into the main topic when we get into it a little

0:43.3

teaser for you there but first of all as always tell us a little bit about what you have

0:48.8

been working on real life artist week has it been for you? Real Life Artist Week has been recording videos which doesn't sound very artisty, does it?

0:58.0

But I have a free course coming up which starts on June the 3rd and I had recorded videos for it last year and decided I wouldn't re-record them all this year because what's the point and then I looked at them and thought I can do better than that and this is what I do every year. So I've re-recorded everything and re-edited everything and now I'm getting the pages ready because each lesson has a web page and all boring things that you don't think about when you start painting.

1:27.8

But the other thing that's been happening while I'm working on that is I'm noticing you know that feeling of like right I need to paint now

1:37.0

I need to get going again and I don't, I'm still working through ideas, number one. And number two, I have loads of panels that need prepping and jessowing before I can start. I hate that job so I postpone that every day which means I can't get started and also I don't have a lot of time for a few weeks so what I decided to do is I have one big canvas that I'd already started painting on for a photo

2:07.2

shoot that sounds very professional doesn't it when I had the photographer in to do photos for my new website and for the book, she had me paint and so I used this canvas and just messed around on it.

2:19.0

So what I decided was, okay, every day or every other day I can spend half an hour just letting some steam out on this canvas and that just basically means slopping paint around in a completely unplanned way. But it just like a it's like a

2:36.7

release valve. It's letting it out and so I can then concentrate on doing what I have to do.

2:43.4

So it's a complete mess, but in a really fun and exciting way because I know I don't care

2:49.5

what it looks like.

2:50.8

And also quite interesting that it's not as you say part of a considered

2:54.3

series or anything else it's just it is what it is you could just it would be
