Summary

Should you build for a few weeks, then shred at the end?Can you really add muscle without a “dirty bulk”?And how do you know when it’s actually time to eat more? In this episode snippet, Kim Constable breaks down the real science of building muscle and losing fat, without the confusion, bro-science, or unnecessary weight gain. You’ll learn: Why a 5–6 week build followed by a 2-week shred doesn’t work The smarter approach: longer, more controlled phases What “increase intensity” actually means when building muscle Why dirty bulks don’t build more muscle (and what the data really shows) How your body can use fat stores OR food energy to grow muscle The exact signs that tell you when you’ve earned more calories This episode is essential listening if you want to build a lean, strong body without spinning your wheels, overeating, or undoing months of progress. Right, let's get going. Chris is asking the first question and Chris says, hi Kim,

0:04.1

hello Chris. I bought the build plans and I would like to try eating at those higher calories

0:08.1

because my lower body gets, looks very skinny when I shred. However, my lower body does show

0:13.8

results very quickly. Could I follow the build food plan for five to six weeks and then shred the

0:19.4

last two or three weeks instead of shredding

0:21.4

all eight. Any advice on that? You mentioned upping the intensity when doing the build. What does that

0:27.0

mean? Any special advice or info on builds would be helpful. P.S. loving working out from home. Thank

0:33.1

you so much for quitting these programs. They are life changing. You are so welcome, Chris. This is like

0:37.4

the most fun I've ever had outside of the bedroom. I don't be talking in a long time. for quitting these programs. They are life-changing. You are so welcome, Chris. This is like the

0:37.6

most fun I've ever had outside of the bedroom. I don't be talking in a long time. Outside of like

0:42.7

my teenage years or my years in college admiring my husband. This is literally the most fun I've

0:47.9

had in years. So there you are. You guys are like the most fun thing in my life right now.

0:52.6

So build meal plans.

0:55.7

Yes, you could technically do the build meal plans for four or five, six weeks if you

1:00.9

want it and then shred at the end.

1:03.0

Just know, though, that two weeks is really not a very long time to shred.

1:07.3

That's the only thing that I would say.

1:09.8

You know, you really need about four weeks to see any, any noticeable difference. I'm trying to get my microphone in the right place here. You really need to add about four weeks to notice any difference with a shred. So if you only do two weeks, you're really not going to get very good benefits. I would suggest doing four and four, a four week build on a four week shred. You're really not going to build very much in the first four weeks. You're probably just going to maintain what you have. The other thing about the build meal plans is they're really not super high calories either. They start, I think, is it 1600 calories they start at? So it's not like they're really super high calorie. So if you don't have body fat to lose and you are doing the

1:45.7

build meal plans, then yeah, definitely that could be an option. But I would suggest doing four and

1:49.7

four instead of, you know, six and two because you're not going to get very good shred results with

1:54.5

only two weeks. And then you're asking what do you mean about upping intensity when doing the build? So this is such a good question. I'm

2:02.9

actually going to record a whole podcast on this. You guys have be excited to hear as well. I'm going to go
