That was how Dennis Rader wished to identify himself to the police and the public at large.

For 30 years, Dennis Rader tortured and murdered for reasons that only made sense to him.

Only a human monster would understand.

The story begins with a call placed to the Wichita Police Department on January 15th, 1974.

Officers were dispatched to 805. 498.

Officers were dispatched to 803 North Edgemorne Street.

Three teens returned home from school

to find their mother and father murdered. The mother's purse lay on the floor with all its contents dumped out.

An open billfold was stretched out on the kitchen floor.

They found an adult male named Joseph Otero in the southwest

bedroom. His ankles were bound with a white cord. His hands were bound

behind him. A plastic bag had been placed over his head and secured with a rope.

One of the children cut the rope, the knife that was used, was placed beside the body.

Joseph's wife, had been strangled and left on the bed.

Her ankles were bound and her hands were tied behind her back.

Both corpses were cold. Rigger Mortis had set in. In another bedroom on the floor was Joseph
