He and his wife have six grown children and twelve grandchildren. Bruce pastored Evangelical churches for twenty-five years in Ohio, Texas, and Michigan. He left the ministry in 2005, and in 2008 he left Christianity. He is now a humanist and an atheist.

Hey, everybody, you're listening to the Preacher Boys Podcast. What an amazing episode lined up today. I sat down with Bruce Guernser. He runs brucegernser.net. Bruce pastored in IFB churches for about 25 years, but he ended up leaving the ministry in 2005, and in 2008, left Christianity altogether. He's now a humanist and atheist, and he spends his time

writing a blog about his past and present life. He talks a lot about the insanity of the

Independent Baptist Movement. We talk quite a bit about that. He talks about playing whack-a-mole

with David Hiles. Every time he sticks his head up, he talks about some hearing whispers about

the Hiles' controversies early on in his ministry

and really just talks a lot about what it was like being behind the pulpit in IFB churches

and what eventually led to the burnout that him and his wife experienced back in the early 2000s.
