Summary

Brook and Kerry discuss the miracle at Bethesda, and our need to have someone to help us, to be someone who helps, and how Christ is always there as the person we need. They also discuss how and when and why God does (or does not, or does not when we expect) answer our prayers. We are grateful for our sponsor, Lisa Spice, and for our editor, Alexia Muhlestein, and for Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.

Hello and welcome to the scriptures a real podcast. This is the podcast where we talk about things in the scriptures that have become real to us because we believe that helps us apply them more to our lives and we need all the power we can get out of the scriptures.

I'm your host, Kerry Mielstein, and I'm so happy to have with me tonight, one of my former students from Jerusalem,

0:26.6

I think, if I remember, you were even like the head of my travel committee or something like that

0:31.7

and to help all the field trips work well. This is Brooke Stacy, who I'll let you tell everyone a little bit more about

0:39.6

yourself, but she was in the nursing program when I was with her, and I know it's gone on from there,

0:43.9

so I'll let her tell you, but welcome, Brooke. Yeah, hey, so I was in the 2016 summer group

0:50.4

with Dr. Mulestein, and I finished BYU's nursing program in 2016. And I've just been

0:56.6

working as a nurse for the last six and a half years. And I'm actually back at BYU,

1:01.3

again, doing my master's in their family nurse practitioner program. So. And you're almost

1:06.3

done, almost going to be a nurse practitioner, right? Yeah, I just am going to finish up after the spring

1:12.3

term in June, so pretty exciting. Well, that's fun. And so some of our audience may at some point

1:18.9

have you as their nurse practitioner. That would be fantastic. They'd be lucky. They'd be in good hands.

1:23.4

Thank you. Brooke took care, good care of even my family, but all sorts of people on those field trips, just making sure they were all right. So it was good. You're still doing that kind of stuff. Thank you. Thanks, Brooke. And where are you from originally? I'm originally from Virginia on the East Coast, just a little town about 45 minutes southwest of D.C.

1:45.5

All right. Well, good. Well, thank you for taking time to be with us.

1:50.8

And I know you have had a number of things that have made the scriptures become very real for you.

1:55.6

So we're hoping you'd share one of those with us.

2:00.0

Yeah. So one of my favorite stories, and I think it stuck out

2:04.0

to me while I was in Jerusalem, because I was in BYU's nursing program and learning about the

2:11.4

healers art and learning about how to be more like the Savior Jesus Christ. And so when we went to

2:17.0

the pools of Bethesda, we talked about

2:19.4

the man who had been sick for 38 years. And he lost hope and ever making it into the pools

2:26.3

for his miracle to be healed. And when Christ talked to him, he asked him why he'd never jumped in the
