Summary

In 2023 I covered the launch of the British Airways Speedbird Pilot Academy: recruiting young people to be the pilots of tomorrow. I am delighted to be back at Heathrow to meet newly qualified pilot Jasmine Campbell, one of the inaugural intake and now flying A320 family aircraft across the UK and Europe for BA.

Recruitment for the next intake begins tomorrow, 14 April, and Senior First Officer Genevieve Pearmaine – the programme lead – told me more.

or who have just started their journey.

1:10.0

Talk us through that

1:11.4

journey. I imagine just a vast amount of technical expertise that you have to master, but also

1:18.4

probably quite a lot of human skills as well. It's definitely a course that has some challenges,

1:24.4

but if like myself you've wanted to be a pilot for as long as you can

1:28.0

remember, then you go into that with your eyes open. You know that you're going to need to put in a

1:32.8

lot of work and a lot of commitment in order to be successful. There's undoubtedly a massive

1:37.9

amount of technical knowledge and academic study that goes into it. And that study doesn't

stop when you finish flight training,
