Summary

Rhett sits down with Philip Lupton and Truett Heintzelman, the two young Texans behind Briscoe, a harmony-rich Americana duo making waves with their sophomore album, Heat of July. Recorded in Nashville during AmericanaFest, the conversation covers the band’s early days at UT Austin, their musical roots, and their thoughtful approach to songwriting and performance. Rhett and Briscoe discuss the realities of being a young band in a fast-moving industry—balancing ambition with patience, dealing with imposter syndrome, and staying true to their craft. Out now! settled themselves coming from other places in Texas. They went to the University of Texas,

met up, started playing,

started making albums. They have a new record, The Heat of July. It's great. It features their signature harmonies, their songwriting, Wise Beyond Its Years. And people are loving it. And it's so fun to watch successive generations of musicians as they come like waves against the shore.

hopes, their dreams.

1:23.5

Because boy, being 24, you got a lot of hopes and dreams and big plans. And I feel like they're

1:28.8

doing a great job of honoring their talent and enjoying the place they're at, you know? So it's a pleasure

1:40.1

for me to get to meet Philip and Truitt and get sit down and get to know them a little

bit. I think you're really going to enjoy the conversation we had. We sat down at a recording
