| 0:13.0 | And today, I would like to lead you through an exercise, a practice of lament. |
| 0:19.0 | You can do this on your walk or in your house, sitting on your favorite chair or for some reason, |
| 0:26.0 | you're driving somewhere, you can even do this in the car. |
| 0:28.0 | The only requirement is that you participate and that you don't try to multitask. |
| 0:34.0 | Now, I'm going to lead you through this lament and offer times of silence. |
| 0:38.0 | I'm only going to give you a few seconds and moments of silence, where you can fill in the silence with your own prayer. |
| 0:44.0 | Now, I recommend that you pause it after every question and journal or spend more time in lament. |
| 0:50.0 | But for podcast reasons, I'll move through this fairly quickly. |
| 0:55.0 | First of all, what is a lament? |
| 0:58.0 | We started yesterday by saying that a lament in the scriptures is a prayerful response to the reality of suffering that engages God in the context of pain and trouble. |
| 1:07.0 | One of my good friends, Brian Laritz, says that when injustice happens in the world, moving to action is like hand sanitizer for a guilty conscience. |
| 1:17.0 | We're actually supposed to sit in lament first. |
| 1:21.0 | So let's do that. We're doing that this whole week, but let me formally invite you to lament your lament. |
| 1:28.0 | However, whatever you need to lament, my lament is going to look different from your lament. |
| 1:33.0 | We're all going to do this together. |
| 1:36.0 | One thing that I think is important to remember right here is sometimes, |
| 1:41.0 | laments don't feel theologically correct. |
| 1:44.0 | What I mean by that is if you've ever read a Psalm and thought, is that, how is that in the Bible? |
| 1:49.0 | That doesn't feel or seem like you can say that to God. |
