yet again. Joining me from London are Kate McCann, senior political correspondent at the Daily

The first defeat for Theresa May's government on European Union legislation in the withdrawal bill last night, not necessarily the best approach for her to make to Brussels as she comes to try and clinch the conclusion of phase one of the talks and move forward to talks in the round, including the future trade relationship.

So how much of a setback was it for the government?

The man who masterminded the defeat, the leader of the rebels, Dominic Grieve, was feeling rueful.

I have a large number of amendments, and none of them had ended like this.

And I was very disappointed that despite the fact I thought I had some important points to make,

for whatever reason, the government closed down discussion on tabling an amendment of their own,

and never came back to me.
