Summary

The verdict is in. The cops who killed Breonna Taylor will not be prosecuted for it, and that shouldn't come as a surprise. They didn't break the law. Everything they did was completely legal. Unfortunately, what's legal isn't always right, and what's right isn't always legal. We have no evidence that this verdict is a product of racism, just like we have no evidence that this Black cop tased and arrested this white lady at a high school football game because he was a racist. What we do know is that we effectively no longer have a criminal justice system. Violent rioters have been rampaging through the streets of American cities for months now, and in many cases, the only people being prosecuted are those who try to defend themselves. See Kyle Rittenhouse, who is still sitting in jail. See Jake Gardner, who killed himself to avoid Kyle's fate. See the Prius driver in Los Angeles last night who was chased down and attacked by "protestors." That was bad enough, but then his privilege for enduring that harrowing experience was that the police showed up and arrested HIM. Finally, see the Christians in Idaho who were arrested during their actually-peaceful protest of their city's mask mandates. You can burn down your city, but don't you dare stand outside and peacefully sing songs. The America we once knew is gone. And it's not coming back. No one is coming to save you. We're seeing the system work exactly as it's supposed to: in the interests of those who are already at the top. All the happy stories we tell ourselves about how things are supposed to be have no bearing on how things actually are. Life isn't fair, and the American system is the best evidence you'll ever see. Rather than just complaining about how bad it is, we can focus on understanding how it works, and then putting ourselves in the position to win anyways. ----- This episode is brought to you by our sponsors: Indochino (Code: Stapleton) NetSuite
