Cubs signed Eric Hosmer today for a small deal.

Nothing fully put out there, but some speculation suggests it's a one-year deal for Hosmer,

potentially near the league minimum, and I think in the days to come we'll find out specifics in regards to money,

but I'll tell you what, it will not be breaking the bank.

It won't be like his Padres contract from before,

which was, I believe, a seven-year,

$163 million deal,

and the Padres obviously regretted that pretty quick.

That's not a slight against Hosmer.

I mean, he had a couple of great years out in Kansas City,

and if you remember those Royals teams of 2015, 2014, they were a World Series winner, right? They won the World Series with

Eric Cosmer. He was one of their main pieces. Hinton 290, hint in 25 home runs, and the year he

went on to free agency, the year before hit 318. Best Abber Jabber, 882 OPS, best ever,

had career highs in pretty much upper category, even finished 14th in the MVP voting.

So it was a big move for the Padres and a big risk to bring him on,

but he just never latched on out there in San Diego.

I think the big thing was this year when the Padres wanted to make them move for

Juan Soto.

Eric Hosmer was supposed to be a part of that trade.

They were supposed to trade Eric Hosmer and a bunch of other players to the Nationals for

Juan Soto.

And the big thing was Eric Hosmer said no.
