Hey there, it's a special breaking news edition of the Football Guys Daily Update. I'm Bob Harris here to follow up on a story. Mike Dempsey and I brought you this morning. After making it through training camp in the preseason with no apparent health issues and not even appearing on Wednesday's injury report, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was added to the list Thursday night. McCaffrey is now dealing with a calf issue that he sustained Thursday when he was a limited participant. McAfrey was on the field doing his usual warm-up and individual drills during the roughly 20 minutes open reporters at the start of Thursday session, but he was not in the locker room after it was over and did not do his usual Thursday media session. On Friday, McCaffrey was not with his teammates as they went through their pre-practice routine.

Instead, he was working on a side field and head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed later that McCaffrey did not practice

and announced the star running back as questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.

Shanahan declined off for any forecast about McCaffrey's chances of playing this weekend,

and he repeated that he's questionable in response to questions about his condition.

Asked if McCaffrey would test the injury tomorrow, Shanahan also declined to comment.

For the record, McCaffrey told the athletics Vic Tafer immediately after Friday session that he feels great and plans to play.

McCaffrey acknowledged his

injury history, however, plays a role in how he and the team approach issues like this.

Again, the 49ers play the Seahawks. It's a late afternoon contest on Sunday.

Ryan Robinson Jr. and Isaac Greendo will be the next men up for the 49ers in the backfield.

Barring their presence on your roster, fantasy manager will need to have

a fallback option available in the late afternoon window, Sunday night or in the Monday night game.

Bigger picture, here we are in a very familiar and uncomfortable spot. McAfree's health has not been

an issue all summer, but the sudden calf injury is particularly notable given what happened

leading up to week one last season. McCaffrey sat out most of 2024 training camp while dealing with what the team

initially termed a calf injury, but later clarified to be a bilateral Achilles tendonitis.

Heading into last year's season opener against the New York Jets, McAfrey was listed as a limited

participant in practice during the week and then questionable for the game.

Not only did McCaffrey not play against the Jets, he then set out the team's next seven games after landing on injured reserve before a week two meeting with the Minnesota Vikings.

After a lengthy recovery that included a trip to Germany to see a specialist, McCaffrey finally returned on November 10th against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and appeared in just four games before suffering a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against the Buffalo Bills in week 13. After sitting out the rest of the season because of that knee injury, McCaffrey was back on the field for all the team's offseason program and then throughout this year's training camp. Similar to what they did in 2023, the Niners limited McCaffrey's workload during this training camp, giving him an

extra day off to begin each stretch of three practices. But before yesterday, there was no
