Proceeding with World Menopause month, my guest today is Tamsen Fadal. She is a news anchor in NYC and has taken the menopause narrative from television news to social media. On her platforms she is known for giving advice to women in midlife, and fighting for policy change in the workplace. Hi, everybody. Welcome to this edition of Over 50 and Flourishing. This podcast is being released in

0:05.9

October, where it is World Menopause Month. Finally, a month dedicated to menopause and the

0:13.2

conversations thereof. I've got a wonderful guest who's going to be in just a second, but I figured

0:18.5

I would start out each of these episodes with my own

0:22.1

personal menopause story. And I know that we all have many of them. And as I think back on that

0:27.5

journey and some of the symptoms and signs that would hit me, I would never forget, and I was

0:33.6

anchoring the news at the time, brain fog is such, can be such a big part of a woman's

0:39.9

menopause journey. And I'll never forget, I always felt so assured of my brain's ability to

0:46.1

function in a news set, especially during breaking news coverage. And that was one of the things that

0:50.9

I really enjoyed doing the most was taking a story that was

0:55.9

happening live, not being scripted, and having to piece together and thread together the

1:01.1

narrative as you're learning information.

1:03.3

And I will never forget, I would sit there and I would struggle to remember what was

1:10.6

just said or even just putting my sentences together.

1:14.4

There were these lapses and these gaps that were starting to happen.

1:17.9

And I thought, my gosh, you know, this isn't me.

1:20.7

This isn't who I am.

1:21.8

You know, this was an area where I felt that I excelled.

1:24.9

And I'm, and I'm struggling to find the words.

1:26.8

And it was so, so scary for me.

1:29.3

And it wasn't until I started to get help and to get treatment for my menopause that suddenly

1:35.3

the words came back and I can actually speak the English language. Thank goodness.
