Good morning. It is Saturday, May the 1st. I'm Ali Velshi. We begin this May

morning with some good news. More than 101 million Americans are now fully vaccinated against

COVID-19.

That's 30.5% of the American population.

Nearly 44% of Americans have had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine,

and that has driven a drop in both cases and deaths in the United States.

It's unfortunately a far different story in India where a catastrophic

surge, which accounts for more than 40% of the world's new COVID-19 cases, has devastated that

country's health care network and infrastructure. The situation is so apocalyptic that a cricket

contest was controversially played with plumes of smoke from a nearby

outdoor mass crematorium billowing as the backdrop. President Biden is taking action starting

this coming Tuesday. He's barring travel from India for non-U.S. citizens. He's also sending help in the

form of $100 million in desperately needed supplies.

The White House also says two U.S. military aircraft arrived in India yesterday, carrying oxygen
