Summary

When a federal agent uses deadly force, who decides if it was justified and based on what evidence? What does accountability require? In a new episode of the Insider podcast, Preet Bharara and Joyce Vance are joined by Vanita Gupta, an experienced civil rights attorney who served as United States Associate Attorney General and led the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. In this excerpt from the conversation, Vanita discusses her work collaborating with law enforcement leaders to update the Department of Justice’s “use of force” policies. In the full episode, Preet, Joyce, and Vanita delve further into the shooting of Renee Good, including whether the ICE agent who shot and killed her will face accountability and what the future of ICE might look like in the aftermath of this incident. Let me get in, if it's okay, a little bit into the updated use of force policy, because

1:15.8

we updated it for a few reasons.

1:18.1

After George Floyd was murdered and the Justice Department was in Minneapolis prosecuting
