Summary

Welcome back to another powerhouse episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu. In this special “Best Of IT 2025” edition, Tom Bilyeu sits down with a remarkable panel of thinkers, investigators, and insiders, including Whitney Webb, Scott Galloway, Andrew Bustamante, and Mo Gawdat. Today’s conversation dives headlong into the intersections of politics, national security, technology, and the human condition. Whitney Webb unpacks the shadowy networks behind political and business power, giving us a candid look at Donald Trump’s motivations, the AI arms race, and the rise of a modern technocracy. She draws bold connections from backroom deals to the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence, questioning who truly benefits from these seismic shifts. Andrew Bustamante, a former CIA operative, pulls back the curtain on intelligence operations, the Epstein scandal, and explains how global gamesmanship actually unfolds—reminding us that the truth often lies somewhere between conspiracy and incompetence. He explores the ongoing “shadow conflict” with China, the realities of modern military strategy, and what’s really happening behind the headlines in hotspots like Venezuela and the Caribbean. Mo Gawdat challenges us to rethink the broader implications of global power plays—asking whether America’s aggressive stance towards China may actually be hurting itself, and positing that economic diplomacy and humility could be the keys to a more peaceful future. And Scott Galloway offers his trademark candid analysis on the Trump presidency, economic malaise, masculinity in crisis, and what it will take for America’s young people—especially young men—to thrive again. If you’re looking for a conversation that pulls no punches and explores the uncomfortable truths behind world events, government, technology, and society, you’re in the right place. First up is Whitney Webb, Understanding the Deep State. Do you think that Trump is somebody who has the elite view of,

0:25.1

like, hey, the right people are in power, let's make these decisions for everybody else? Or do you

0:30.9

believe that actually sits outside of that system and is actually trying to help the everyday person

0:36.5

in the way that he presented himself

0:38.8

while he was campaigning.

0:41.0

Yeah, so as far as my perspective on Trump goes, it tends to do with the view, it tends to

0:45.9

revolve around the view that he is a businessman at heart and that the focus of his

0:50.5

political style, I guess, is deal-making.

0:57.9

And, you know, I wrote a lot in my book about Trump's mentor, Roy Cohn, who was,

1:04.4

among other things, the general counsel to McCarthy during the McCarthy hearings.

1:09.3

He was also, you know, a New York City lawyer

1:11.6

that represented a lot of unsavory figures, including some tied to organized crime and also

1:17.5

had the ear of Ronald Reagan and taught politicians to United States and sort of bridged

1:21.8

a variety of worlds. And he very much essentially taught Trump the art of the deal as it were and you know a lot of

1:31.9

his close at cones close associates like the pope family for example uh were very politically

1:38.6

connected also connected to organized crime arguably um but we're very much in the business of making backroom

1:47.0

deals and that that's how, you know, power, political power in the United States

1:52.4

functions. And so, you know, fundamentally, I think a lot of what Trump likes to focus on

2:00.7

and promote about his political style is around negotiations,
